Washington Musica Viva started in July 1998 with the goal of providing quality classical and contemporary chamber music performance, in conjunction with poetry, visual art, and other performing arts. We've been going strong ever since.
Washington Musica Viva has held over 100 performances, impacting thousands of people throughout the Washington, DC area. Participants have included poets such as Michael Glaser, Barbara Crooker,Elisabeth Murawski, and Linda Pastan, visual artists such as Michael Platt, Alice Sims, and Percy Martin; and composers such as Yehudi Wyner, Maurice Saylor, Jeffrey Mumford, Libby Larsen, Scott Wheeler, Lori Laitman, Janet Peachey, and many many others. And there are all the wonderful musicians who have performed with Washington Musica Viva over the years, many drawn from the National Symphony Orchestra and the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra, as well as exciting free lance musicians from all parts of the east coast.
Washington Musica Viva believes that the future of chamber music is a return to small audiences in small spaces, an informal atmosphere, and the excitement of the new. Washington Musica Viva creates the opportunity for the visual arts, literary arts, and performance communities to come together, get to know one another and find common ground.
In addition to admission fees, Washington Musica Viva has received grants from the Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Sprenger-Lang Foundation, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Maryland State Arts Council, and The Randy Hostetler Living Room Fund to support its endeavors. However, it's not enough.
If you've attended a performance, you know how important it is to keep this organization thriving. If you have not had a chance, there's no time like the present. Please consider a contribution to Washington Musica Viva today.
