Washington Musica Viva, Inc. (WMV) was incorporated in Montgomery County as a non-profit arts organization in July 1998. Its mission is to produce public performances of a broad range of classical, jazz-based, and contemporary chamber music, including music by Washington area composers and lesser known classical masterpieces.
Now beginning its 13th season, WMV has produced more than 160 programs, with recent performances at the Czech Center in NY, the Embassy of Austria, Brooklyn Conservatory, Busboys and Poets in DC, and The Dennis & Phillip Ratner Museum. Directed by pianist Carl Banner, the WMV ensemble is composed of some of the finest professional musicians on the Eastern Seaboard, plus nationally known guest artists.
In addition to admission fees, Washington Musica Viva has received grants from the Morris & Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, the Sprenger-Lang Foundation, the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, the Maryland State Arts Council, the Viktor Kalabis and Zuzana Ruzickova Foundation, and The Randy Hostetler Living Room Fund to support its endeavors. However, it's not enough.
