Anne Becker, Poet

Anne Becker is author of three books of poetry, Human Animal, The Transmutation Notebooks: Poems in the Voices of Charles and Emma Darwin and The Good Body (a poetry chapbook). As a dance student of Maida Withers at George Washington University she began experimenting with combining poetry and dance. While poet laureate of Takoma Park, MD, she co-curated two exhibitions of collaborations between poets and visual artists. Both exhibits featured evenings of collaborative performances by poets, musicians, and dancers. She also organized “Collaboration Laboratory,” where poets, dancers and musicians explored through improvisation the possibilities of combining their arts. As poet-in-residence at Pyramid Atlantic Arts Center she continued to experiment with ways to combine poetry with other art forms in order to give body to words, working with book artists, printmakers, letterpress printers, papermakers. For the past several years she has presented programs of poetry and music with Carl Banner at Washington Musica Viva.
