Washington Musica Viva

May 2023: Marilyn Banner & Washington Musica Viva at The Wellfleet Public Library

From April 29 to May 26, artist Marilyn Banner will exhibit her latest work in the Wellfleet Public Library.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Washington Musica Viva will produce a series of four chamber music concerts in the Wellfleet Meeting Room.

The series is dedicated to Paul H. Banner, long-time Wellfleet resident, recognizing his service to the Library and to the Wellfleet community.

Saturday May 6 at 3:00 pm: Three Cello Sonatas

Emma Hays Johnson, cello, Carl Banner, piano.

Program: Sonata for Cello and Piano (1919) by Henriette Bosmans; Sonata No. 2 in F, Op. 99 by Johannes Brahms; Cello Sonata (2023) by Natasha Senanayake.

Friday May 12 at 7:30 pm: Chamber Music for Alto Saxophone and Piano

Rhonda Buckley-Bishop, saxophone, Carl Banner, piano.

Program: Oliver Nelson - Sonata for alto saxophone and piano; Alec Wilder - Sonata for alto saxophone and piano; four lieder by Johannes Brahms.

Saturday May 20 at 3:00 pm: Piano Quartets of Brahms (#3) and Schumann Op. 47. Heather Goodchild Wade, violin, Santiago Vazquez-Loredo, viola, Bo Ericsson, cello, Carl Banner, piano.

Friday May 26 at 7:00 pm: An Evening of Music and Poetry

Two Romantic Violin Sonatas: Claire Thaler, violin, and Carl Banner, piano, perform Sonata no. 2 in A, Op. 100 by Johannes Brahms, and Duo Op. 162 by Franz Schubert.

Poet Anne Dykers performs her recent work, “Book 1 of the Amazing Blurry Dream Place”, with music of Byrd, Bach, Janacek, Bartok, and Milhaud performed by Carl Banner.
